Coach Schmersal has a BS degree and teaching credential from Cal Poly, Pomona University, a Masters in Education from University of Phoenix, and Adapted Physical Education Credential from Azusa Pacific University. Coach Schmersal has been teaching since 1996 and coaching since 1987. Girls Volleyball Coach, Badminton Coach – Gerry Knuppel
Coach Knuppel has a BS degree and teaching credential from San Diego State University, a Masters in Education from Azusa Pacific, and is a Certified Athletic Administrator. He has been a Physical Education Teacher, APE Specialist for San Diego Unified since 1977, and has coached at Clairemont High School since 1982. He has coached Badminton, Track and Field, Football, and currently coaches Boys & Girls Varsity Volleyball, Varsity Wrestling. He was elected CIF Model Coach of the Year, 2005-2006, High School Sports Association Athletic Director of the Year, and California State Athletic Director Association Orron Qualls Award recipient in 2013.
Coach Knuppel was the Athletic Director in 1991-1994 and returned to the position in 2003.
It is his goal to provide an athletic program that is a positive and enriching experience for every athlete.
